GB Pixel Art Jam 2023 Sub
A downloadable asset pack
My submission for the inaugural GB Pixel Art Jam 2023.
Theme: An Awesome Discovery!
My awesome discovery is the GB Studio community and the itch community! Since 2020 I have had fun learning GB studio and making Game Boy games. But the amazing thing that has happened is that I have found myself with fellow travellers, on a journey of creativity. All focused around the joy of the GB platform. None have I met in person, but the connection is there.
My image doesn't get that all in really, but I have gone for the "Raiders of the lost Ark" idol in the temple vibe. The idol being a voxel, with the decoration suggesting the 4 colour palette of the Game Boy.
Thanks to GB Studio Central, a big shout out to Chris Maltby and special thanks to Emi.
(extra thanks to Gumpy Function for uploading early and making the fantastic cover image example https://gumpyfunction.itch.io/gb-pixel-art-jam-2023-submission and Rob Doman for inspiration).

Great composition. The hands are fantastic. Thanks for hosting such an enjoyable jam.
That’s great to hear. There’s the ROM to look forward to now!
Definitely looking forward to viewing all the entries on original hardware
love the look of the hands in this!!
Thanks, hands are always tricky.
This was very well done! The perspective of the hand is very good, things like fingers and nails always seemed complex to me.
They do require practice, life drawing helps.
I can just imagine this as a cutscene in a game, the next scene is holding the voxel, then using GB studio's Camera Shake event until seeing the next screen is a huge voxel boulder heading our way!
Also you know it has to be said, great job on those hands.
Thank you, it’s true, it’s always the human body that’s most difficult.
